Indoor & outdoor activities and workshops incude: maple sugaring, animal tracking, astronomy, natural history hikes, blacksmithing, food preservation, team-building initiatives, winter plant identification, emergency preparation, drumming, winter photography, Snow Snakes—a Native American game, Saturday evening entertainment and more! ASHOKAN MAPLEFEST / Sat, Mar 6

The Ashokan Center will be holding their annual maple sugaring festival with workshops & activities including: tapping a tree, maple sugar taste testing, the history of maple sugaring, and the hands-on colonial crafts of tinsmithing, blacksmithing and broommaking, a 1817 schoolhouse re-enactment and Naturalist-led hikes to Cathedral Falls. Take home fresh Ashokan syrup by competing in the two-person saw contest. From 11am to 5pm. $5, $3 under 10 years old, free under 5. DEWEY BALFA CAJUN/CREOLE HERITAGE WEEK Fri–Fri, Apr 16–23

Enjoy classes taught by masters of Cajun & Creole music, dance, language, cuisine and culture. The evening dances, with top local bands, are open to the public. The DBCCHW takes place at the beautiful Chicot Lake State Park, near Ville Platte, in southwest Louisiana.
